Our Styled Valentine’s Mini-Sessions with Alissa Saylor Photography: Part 3 Details

Today I thought I’d round out my Valentine’s mini-sessions posts (you can check out Part 1 and Part 2) with my favorite aspect of any photoshoot: the details! My mini-sessions with Alissa Saylor Photography were all about lovely rustic, feminine touches. Think lace, pale pink, creamy white and peach hues and lots of pretty sweets, including the heart-shaped handpies I baked with Alissa and Jenna, Stockroom Vintage’s styling assistant. We rolled dough and cut out mini-hearts in Alissa’s kitchen for hours the night before–and the charm they brought to the shoot was so worth it! Jenna shared a sneak peek of our heart pie baking bonanza on her blog. Our dessert table featured a ruffled cake by Pastry in Pink, which was adorned with my handmade glitter heart toppers. We filled lots of compotes and vessels from Stockroom’s milk glass collection with my dip-dyed marshmallows (DIY tutorial coming soon!) and Jenna’s pink meringue cookies. I’m also madly in love with the fabric backdrop Alissa and I dreamed up for this shoot–we ripped up so many vintage sheets and lace curtains into strips to create it. As it turns out, ripping fabric is super therapeutic. Who knew? A quick glimpse of our beind-the-scenes action during our morning set-up. It was less than 30 degrees (and so icy!). Don’t I look like I’m so in my element when surrounded by farm equipment?! Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Speaking of farm equipment, I just had to share this shot Alissa captured of our husbands riding on the arm of a tractor up into the barn’s rafters. It was the only way we could hang that gorgeous ribbon backdrop! Thankfully, this happened before I arrived on set (I was stuck in traffic thanks to the icy roads). Otherwise, I would’ve had an anxiety attack when our hubbies teetered toward the roof. So chivalrous! If you’d like to see more images from the shoot, check out Alissa’s blog post. She shared some amazingly sweet mother-daughter photos, which are admittedly some of my favorite from the bunch! Thanks again to Christy Jo of Starlite Farm for letting us set up in this lovely space! - Elizabeth

I am in LOVE with this shoot! I love all the feminine details. I am also always a sucker for a fabric backdrop.
