I am not the most patient person. I like to tackle projects and chores where instant gratification is possible. But I also love photos with a vintage look. And I take pretty much any recommendation from Elsie at A Beautiful Mess to heart. So when I came across her iPhone App Mixology post and saw the photos she’d snapped with the Hipstamatic Disposable App, I loved the look of the pics but didn’t know if I had it in me. You see, this Hipstamatic App is all about patience: You have to take 24 photos (just like the good old days of the disposable camera) before you can see your completed roll of virtual film.
With my first roll, I decided to capture the view from our East Nashville home (also known as Stockroom Vintage headquarters). Much to my surprise, the shots I loved best were the ones that captured quiet corners, the spots I don’t often visit or take the time to fully appreciate. It’s amazing what beauty hides in the hallways we pass through quickly or the vignettes that are created by accident (like that pile of gorgeous vintage suitcases that Lindsey of dandyLion events kindly dropped off when she was picking up some Stockroom creations last week).
Aside from recommending the Hipstamatic Disposable App, I wanted to challenge you guys to take a little walk about your place and snap some pics. Resist the urge to rearrange and style photos. (That was a tough task for me!) And force yourself out of your comfort zone. (I always default to photographing larger, super-styled vignettes like my favorite MidCentury shelves or our cute dining nook.)
When it comes to taking the time to really acknowledge and enjoy the beauty around me, I’m not always the best. I tend to get absorbed in work and my to-do list, but I’m trying. And these shots really make me want to try harder and work to find more slow, reflective moments in my everyday life. I hope they inspire all of you lovelies to do the same.
xoxo, Elizabeth
