My styling vision for the sale was a laid-back, ethereal boho vibe with lots of airy, whimsical touches. I made dozens of dreamcatchers and rustic floral halo wreaths by hand. But the biggest DIY endeavor for this event was, by far, the fabric teepee! My husband built the frame and then I tied hundreds and hundreds of strips of vintage and reclaimed fabric around it. I’m so thrilled with how it turned out–the way the light shined through the strips of fabric was gorgeous. It was so sweet to see tons of kids (okay, and plenty of adults, too!) taking turns hanging out in this little boho teepee at the barn sale!

Of course, one of the main attractions was this vintage VW van loaned to us again by Sara Beth Hunter Pegg, one of the vendors at the sale. I would give anything to take this beauty out for a spin–or on an epic road trip!

We also saw lots of lovelies piling onto this lovely old church pew to snap some group photos. I made the backdrop out of strips of vintage lace and other sheer fabrics.  These rustic floral grapevine halos were one of my favorite DIY touches for this event. They were just so simple and sweet! Thanks to all of our friends–old and new–who visited us at this sale. And thanks to Gretchen Fuhrman, the newest addition to the Stockroom Vintage team, who assisted with DIYs and styling for this event. “Kalen and I met 4 years ago and soon after decided we should be together. The wedding planning quickly began and the pressure was on! Dates were set, dress purchased, church secured, photographer booked…all the big essentials were nailed down. As the cost built up so did stress and it began to take a toll on us. Arguments arose over silly little things and we canceled the big day and broke up!

About a month later we felt like we made a mistake. We knew we were supposed to be together but the big American-sized wedding wasn’t our style. So we hit the courthouse! Two years later, we were still thankful we didn’t spend the money but wished we at least had photos. That’s when Kelsey came into the picture. Our pictures are amazing and we’re so thankful for her talented eye!”

When Kelsey first shared Casey and Kalen’s story with me, I was on board with the shoot immediately. We wanted to give Casey and Kalen the most amazing wedding photos–and we wanted to give Casey a chance to wear her wedding gown and do a first look with Kalen. (She’d been holding onto the wedding dress she’d bought and never worn all that time!)

So I styled a natural, earthy session at Maplehurst Farm for them. A dessert bar with heart-shaped hand pies and an intimate dinner table with vintage plates and glasses and flower arrangements with fresh fruits and veggies set the tone for the session. With all the chickens, giant sunflowers and fruit dripping from the trees, the day was magical but simple–a setting that really let Casey and Kalen’s love for each other shine.

One of my favorite elements from this session has to be the moonshine bar. I wanted to create a bar that I hadn’t seen anywhere else–something that had a down-home Southern quality–and this simple, laid-back moonshine bar was just the answer. I labeled each mason jar by hand to note the moonshine varieties inside. And when I arrived at the farm to set up, I couldn’t resist placing the bar right amidst the rows of corn. It was too perfect!

And who can throw a farm shindig without pie? We featured heart-shaped, fried handpies from Dale’s Fried Pies on our stacked wooden crate display. Then I used lots of ripe summer fruit and pecans instead of signage to let our couple know what types of pies we had to offer. This is such a sweet, simple alternative to the average dessert bar display!

These free printable seed packets I found made for another fun detail. You can customize them with the couple’s name, wedding date and your favorite plant seeds inside. To stick with our farm-to-table vibe, I stuck with summer vegetable seeds and chose to feature a personal favorite here–some pretty sugar snap peas!

I’m so grateful to Casey and Kalen for letting me be a part of their love story. And to Kelsey for inviting me along to create the wedding photos this couple had always wanted. I’m so happy that we were able to give them that “first look” and the “big day” images they missed. It’s almost time for the fall Strawberry Patch Barn Sale! And this time around, I’m not just styling lots of lovely vintage-inspired sets with our rentals and lots of DIY decor, I’m offering mini-sessions! You see, at the spring sale, I saw lots of Strawberry Patch shoppers and vendors alike posing for photos in my styled sets. And as I was planning the styling for the fall sale it hit me–we should offer professional mini-shoots to those of you who would like some pics that don’t come from your cell phones.

I’ve teamed up with photographer Stef Atkinson, who just so happens to have photographed my wedding. (Which should give you all an idea of how much I adore her work and trust her eye! You may remember a few styled shoots I’ve done with Stef in the past, including this Vintage Summer Picnic shoot and my Kate Spade-Inspired shoot.) This time around, the mini-shoots will have a boho-inspired vibe…think earthy and whimsical with lots of lovely dream catchers and even a handmade teepee! You can check out our inspiration board + color scheme below!Stef and I are offering a limited number of sessions–we’re only shooting from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13. If you’ve ever been to Starlite Farm at sunset, you know how magical those two hours truly are! To celebrate, today I thought I’d share the event design + styling I did for all of the lounge areas at the event. In case you missed it, here are the tablescapes + centerpieces I designed. And a special thank you to Jessica at Soul Flowers, who designed all of the floral arrangements in these lounge areas, and to Jocelyn at Good Denim for loaning me those amazing reclaimed denim floor pillows!   At the NotWedding, we also debuted a sneak peak of our growing line of mid-century modern event rentals, which is a first here in Nashville. You don’t see many Mad Men-esque vintage rentals available in the South, and we’re so excited to offer these retro options to our brides + clients! We’ll be adding this awesome Chesterfield sofa, those sweet shell chairs and those Lane side tables you see below to our rental roster very soon, but if you’re interested in renting them sooner, please get in touch! How gorgeous are Rhain and Zach, the couple for Nashville’s first NotWedding?! (You may remember them from the Nashville Boho Save the Date Session I styled this summer.) I adored Rhain’s wedding gown from The Bride Room. So dreamy! The whole experience at The NotWedding was equal parts fabulous and exhausting in the best way–I almost lost my voice after chatting up so many lovely Nashville brides! This summer has definitely brought a lot of growth to this little dream business of mine. The general theme for the event was “wild + free” so I designed some dinner tablescapes and centerpieces with a rustic, boho vibe–infused with plenty of vintage-made-modern elements, naturally! I foraged for tons of driftwood at a local lake and borrowed my sister’s childhood rock collection (yes, seriously!) because it contains tons of colorful agate, fool’s gold and lots of beach glass. I also tried my hand at watercolors and painted table numbers on mini canvases.

To finish the look, I added lots of loose succulents and handed over tons of our vintage golden brass vases to Jessica at Soul Flowers, who created the gorgeous floral arrangements of my boho-loving dreams! And, of course, I couldn’t resist making some chevron table runners–I love how the muted sand hue of the fabric allowed the colorful rocks and flowers to really pop! The centerpieces took on a bit of a modern Southwestern vibe, which I loved.

I also included an adorable rustic wedding mad libs printable, which I downloaded from Love vs. Design, and a pencil at each place setting. These were such a fun activity for guests while waiting for dinner + the main event. And they paired perfectly with our mix-and-match heirloom china and cornflower blue colored glass goblets. I was obsessed with mad libs as a kid. How fun would these be at your wedding reception or bridal shower?!

I teamed up with Christine of Declare Photography for this shoot. For the styling, I wanted the overall look to be airy + free. I was inspired by the wild, natural elements of this lakeside location as well as slow summer afternoons—and, of course, the Georgia peach! Have you tried peaches from The Peach Truck yet? They’re amazing! I even made my very first fresh flower crown by hand for Rhain to wear. I’m pretty happy with the final product!

Kudos to Christine for scouting this gorgeous lakeside location, which has everything from rocky shorelines to wooded trails and fields of wildflowers. I am so in love with how the lightness of Rhain’s sheer maxi dress plays against the roughness of the jagged rocks. I’m all about that mix of soft/rough textures! What is The Not Wedding? It’s is a snazzy bridal show alternative in the form of a big, fake wedding. “Wedding guests” are brides-to-be who enjoy an emotional ceremony, a tasty dinner and a dance-party reception while truly experiencing the wedding vendors (that’s me!) in action.

Take a looksy at this super-cute video by Imprint Cinema of The Not Wedding 2012 – Orlando, and you’ll be as hooked on this concept as I am!

Doesn’t it look like a blast? You can see why The NotWedding has become a killer alternative to a bridal show–no stale hotel ballrooms, no throngs of ladies throwing elbows for measly cake samples. Instead, the hand-selected vendors perform their services as they would at a real wedding, and the “wedding guests” get to hear the music, taste the cakes, and smell the flowers…while enjoying a night of great food, dancing and surprises, leaving brides-to-be saying “I want my wedding to be just like that!”

The best part? The Not Wedding gives vendors like me a chance do what we do best–provide brides + grooms with tons of inspiration–and to remind them to plan for what comes after the wedding: a marriage!
